If I Stay and Where She Went

“Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you.”
― Gayle Forman, If I Stay

Reading books has been part of my life since I learned how to read and write my first words when I was just a child. I remember going to book fair with my mother and my sister, and buying books that I could hardly read due to the vocabulary that was way too difficult for a ten-year-old child.
The first book that I remember reading is “Pequeno Coração”, written by Ricardo L. Hoffmann. I don’t remember the story very clearly, but I do remember crying and falling in love with books.

So far, some of my favourite books are:
Black Trillium, written by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Julian May and Andre Norton
Lady of the Trillium, written by Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Metamorphosis, written by Franz Kafka
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, written by Mary Shelley
By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, written by Paulo Coelho

I’ve read them more than once, and I love them!

But which book is my number one, you may ask.
Well, I have two number one books:
If I Stay, written by Gayle Forman
Where She Went, written by Gayle Forman

Where She Went is the sequel of If I Stay and I couldn’t have imagined a better sequel.

If I Stay tells the story about 17-year-old Mia Hall. She plays cello and likes classic music. She suffers an accident with her family, and she sees herself in a coma, having an out of body experience. It also focus on the romance between her and Adam Wilde, her rockstar boyfriend.
The story is beautiful, touching, funny and sad at the same time.

Where She Went is the sequel and tells what happens with Mia and Adam. It focuses on their relationship and its’ definitely my favourite book ever. I read and reread it like five times so far, and every time I get so excited that I end up reading the whole book in one seating.
I love the plots, the characters, the thoughts, everything about these two books.
Gayle Forman is a fantastic author, and I love her books!

There is also a movie based on If I Stay, starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Jamie Blackley, and it was released in 2014. Both Chloe and Jamie are exactly how I would imagine Mia and Adam to be! They were perfect for the movie!

I actually didn’t know about the book before watching the film, and as I always say, the versions of the books are a lot better than the movies! So I decided to read the book and fell in love with it, which led me to Where She Went and as soon as I started reading it, I was a goner.

I was hoping that there would be the movie of the sequel as well, but apparently, there isn’t going to be, at least not for now. But I still have hopes! 🙂

So if you ever have the chance to read these two books, please do! And don’t forget to check out the other books written by Gayle Forman! You definitely will not regret reading them! 🙂

Which book is your favourite? Please tell me and I’ll do my best to read it! 😉

Have an amazing Thursday and see you soon!

Anjo’s Matsuri (安城市のまつり)

So, before I start writing about the matsuri of Anjo city, I’m going to define the word matsuri according to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_festivals) :

Matsuri (祭) is the Japanese word for a festival or holiday. In Japan, festivals are usually sponsored by a local shrine or temple, though they can be secular.

I went to the matsuri of Anjo City last year, and I had a blast!
There were tons of food stalls, bands playing, people dancing and citizens enjoying everything! It was packed, and it was so freaking hot, but it was definitely worth it! And that counts a lot because I simply cannot stand warm weather!

This year’s matsuri is already happening this weekend, 8/2 until 8/4, which means it will end tomorrow! I’m aware I’m a little bit late, and I’m genuinely sorry about that! These past few days have been crazy, and I’m doing my best to keep up with my posts! 🙂
I wish I could go to the matsuri this year, but unfortunately, I can’t! Anjo is now very far from where I’m living! The matsuri of my city happened last week, but I couldn’t go because I had a terrible fever and headache! :_(
But if you can go tomorrow to Anjo’s matsuri, please do! You won’t regret it, mainly because of the delicious food! 😉
The matsuri’s website is http://www.anjo-tanabata.jp/ and it’s happening around the area from JR Anjo Station to Meitetsu Minami Anjo Station.

These are some of the pictures that I took there last year:

And I filmed this group of taiko and loved it!
Taiko (太鼓) are a broad range of Japanesepercussion instruments. In Japanese, the term refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums called wadaiko (和太鼓 “Japanese drums”) and to the form of ensemble taiko drumming more specifically called kumi-daiko (組太鼓 “set of drums”). The process of constructing taiko varies between manufacturers, and preparation of both the drum body and skin can take several years depending on method.

Have a great weekend and a great matsuri! Just be careful with the hot sun! 🙂

90’s and 2000’s Music

Today I woke up feeling nostalgic and I couldn’t stop thinking about when I was a teenager and the music that I used to listen to, like Hanson (https://hanson.net/home) and Backstreet Boys (https://www.backstreetboys.com/splash).
Yes, I was utterly obsessed with Hanson! I even made part of a fan club! LOL But unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to meet them in person yet, but I will someday! 😉 It’s a dream that I’ve been carrying since I was like twelve years old! My favourite Hanson was Zac (https://www.instagram.com/zachanson/)! I was in love with him! Hahahaha!

So, I decided to post some of my favourite music here! There was no youtube at the time, but I watched a lot of MTV (http://www.mtv.com/)! But even though there are a bunch of music videos that I hadn’t seen until youtube arrived!
So let’s start my list, shall we?! 😉

Of course this is going to be my number one video! LOL
I told you I was obsessed with Hanson!
It’s been days that I can’t stop thinking about this music! I’m not sure why! LOL

So these are basically some of my favourite music from when I was a teenager! LOL

I miss those times! I miss going to school then coming home and seeing my Mom! Then we would sit in the living room for an hour and she would watch MTV with me! 🙂 Yeah, she was the best!
Maybe that’s why I’m feeling so nostalgic! I miss my parents and I miss being with them!

Anyway, I hope you like the videos and see you soon! 😉

Follow Your Dreams!

“The biggest wall you have to climb is the one you build in your mind: Never let your mind talk you out of your dreams, trick you into giving up. Never let your mind become the greatest obstacle to success. To get your mind on the right track, the rest will follow.”

― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

When I decided to follow my dreams and become a full-time writer and author, I knew that things wouldn’t be easy. Leaving a job where I was sure that I was going to receive full payment at the end of the month was the most challenging part. Fears of failure are evident and strong. But I’m blessed, and I have lots of people in my life who believes in me and believes in my passion. I took a lot of time to start believing in myself, to start thinking that I actually could be a writer and live the rest of my life doing what I love the most: creating stories and writing. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, I’m just starting, and I have a long way ahead of me. But I’m working for that, and I will never give up until I reach my goal.

One of the people who inspired me the most to follow my dreams is a friend of mine. Her name is Paula Taira, and she is a personal trainer today. But before, she used to work with me inside a factory, doing the same job every day, working exclusively for the money.

I’ve always admired her because she is not afraid of anything, and she is always centred. She knows what she wants, and she works for it.
I started following her progress as a personal trainer and fitness competitor through her page on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/paulinhataira/), and I thought it was amazing how she was working towards her goal.

Living in a foreign country is already hard enough. Trying to balance the work-life, with family life plus studying is something that a lot of people can’t handle or don’t want to. But my friend made it all.

I talked to her about how she decided to follow her dreams despite the cons, and she told me that everything started when she was talking to her friends inside the factory she was working. They asked her what she would like to do, and she said that she would like to work with fitness, with gyms. Then, one of her friends told her about a woman who was giving classes about how to become a personal trainer, and she immediately called her.

She started taking classes during the weekdays while working on the nikoutai shift.

二交替 (にこうたい): day and night shift work schedule
Yes, my friend is amazing! I worked for one year on this crazy shift, and my health went downhill.

Anyway, after one year studying and working hard, she finally had her diploma and became a personal trainer in a famous Brazilian gym (https://www.facebook.com/AcademiaKirasGymFitness/) in Okazaki-shi. She is also a competitor in fitness events, and she is happy as hell!

She told me that it was her most significant accomplishment because she had always been a little chubby when she was a kid, and she always wanted to be slimmer.
She told me that she was never afraid of not achieving her goal. She never stopped dreaming, and she did what she had to do! She doesn’t regret anything, and she thinks that everybody should give a shot at following their dreams!
I’m proud of being her friend and seeing her fighting for dreams inspired me to fight for my own goals!

So that’s it, guys! Fight for what you want and for who you want to be!
Nothing comes easily, but hey, I guarantee that it’s definitely worth it! 😉

I just want to make clear that there is nothing wrong about being overweight or too slim. You’ve got to be happy with your own body and your own mind. Everybody is beautiful, no matter the size, height, colour of skin, sexuality choice, weight! Be happy with who you are, and if you feel like you need to change, then change! But don’t let the outside world tell you what to do or not do to! 😉

Crazy Rich Asians

Hey, everyone!
So, I watched the movie Crazy Rich Asians on Netflix (https://www.netflix.com) a few days ago and I’m completely in love with it! It’s refreshing to see a romance that is lovely and not tiring! And can I say that Henry Goldin (https://www.instagram.com/henrygolding/) is hot as hell?! LOL

The story is about an Asian couple, Nick Young and Rachel Chu, that lives in New York, and they travel to Singapore to go to Nick’s cousin’s wedding. When they arrive there, Rachel finds out that Nick’s family is wealthy and important, which she had no idea before.

Even though Rachel is very sweet, beautiful and intelligent, Nick’s family doesn’t think that Rachel is enough for their heir, and the story shows Rachel struggling to prove herself worthy of his family’s blessing.

Rachel Chu is played by Constance Wu (https://www.instagram.com/constancewu/) and I was delighted with her! She is a beautiful and talented actress!
Actually, the whole casting is incredible talented and I loved them!

Crazy Rich Asians is actually a novel written by Kevin Kwan (https://www.instagram.com/kevinkwanbooks/) and I can’t wait to read it!

So there you go! This is my tip for the weekend! Please, oh please, watch it! It’s definitely worth your time! 😉
